We have been installing egress windows, glass block, replacement windows, doors, walkouts, and tuckpointing across Ohio since 2004. These are honest answers to the questions we hear every day — no sales fluff, just the technical reality of how these projects work in Ohio’s climate.

About Evolve Egress

How long has Evolve Egress been in business?

Since 2004. We are a family-owned Ohio company that has served over 30,000 customers across Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati, Akron, Dayton, Toledo, Youngstown, and surrounding communities. We specialize in egress windows, glass block, basement walkouts, replacement windows, entry doors, patio doors, and tuckpointing.

What areas of Ohio do you serve?

We serve the entire state of Ohio with offices in Cleveland, Columbus, and Cincinnati, plus dedicated crews serving Akron/Canton, Dayton, Toledo, Youngstown, and communities within roughly 60 miles of each location.

Do you offer free estimates?

Yes. Every project starts with a free, no-pressure on-site consultation. We assess your specific conditions, explain your options, and provide a transparent written quote. No surprises, no bait-and-switch. Schedule yours here.

Do you offer financing?

Yes. We offer financing through Upgrade with $0 down and 0% promotional APR plans for qualified buyers. You can get a credit decision in minutes with no hard credit pull. Terms subject to approved credit.

What is your warranty?

All Evolve Egress installations come with a lifetime workmanship warranty. Product warranties vary by manufacturer — we use industry-leading brands like ProVia for doors and windows. Specific warranty details are provided in writing with every quote.

Planning & Process

Do you pull permits?

Yes. For egress window and walkout installations — which require permits in most Ohio jurisdictions — we handle the entire permitting and inspection process. We pull the permit, coordinate inspections, and are accountable for code compliance.

What happens during a free consultation?

We visit your home, assess the specific conditions (foundation type, access, soil, drainage, existing finishes), discuss your goals, measure everything, and give you a detailed written quote on the spot or within 24 hours. No obligation. We answer every question you have — that is the entire point of the visit.

Can you do multiple projects at the same time?

Absolutely. Bundling projects — for example, egress windows plus glass block for the rest of the basement, or windows plus an entry door — saves on crew mobilization and often reduces total cost. We can assess your entire home in one visit.

Are you a seasonal company, or do you operate year-round?

Year-round. We do not shut down for winter. Cold-weather mortar additives, proper techniques for below-grade work, and experienced crews mean you do not have to wait until spring for any service — egress, glass block, windows, doors, walkouts, or tuckpointing.

Who actually does the installation — employees or subcontractors?

Our own trained crews. The people who show up at your home are Evolve Egress employees — skilled craftsmen and masons who have been installing across Ohio for years. We do not subcontract our core work.

Egress & Basement Questions

What is the difference between an egress window and a regular basement window?

An egress window is a full-sized, code-compliant window that opens wide enough for a person to climb through in an emergency — minimum 5.7 square feet of clear opening in most Ohio applications. A regular basement window is typically a small hopper or slider that does not meet emergency exit requirements. Egress windows require a window well, excavation, and often foundation cutting. Full code requirements here.

How do I know if my basement needs egress or glass block?

If anyone sleeps in a basement room, that room generally needs a code-compliant egress window. For non-sleeping areas — utility rooms, laundry, storage, garages — glass block provides superior security, privacy, and energy efficiency. Most Ohio basements benefit from both: egress in bedrooms, glass block everywhere else. See the full comparison.

Can I finish my basement without egress windows?

You can finish non-sleeping areas (home offices, rec rooms, gyms) without egress in some jurisdictions, but any room used as a bedroom almost certainly needs one. Without egress, a finished basement bedroom may not be counted in your home’s square footage for appraisal, can create complications during home sales, and — most importantly — puts occupants at risk in a fire. Check the full code guide.

Can I use my basement bedroom without an egress window?

People do, but it is a safety risk and a code violation in most jurisdictions. If a fire blocks the stairs, anyone in that room has no way out. Beyond safety, it creates problems with home inspections, insurance claims, and resale. An egress window installation is a one-time investment that solves all of these issues permanently.

Exterior & Masonry

How do I know if my mortar needs repair?

Drag a screwdriver along a mortar joint. If mortar crumbles out like sand, it has lost structural integrity. Also look for visible gaps between bricks, white powdery residue (efflorescence), stair-step cracks, or water stains on interior walls near exterior brick. Any of these signals that tuckpointing is needed before the damage spreads.

Do egress windows make basements colder?

No. Modern egress windows are insulated, dual-pane units that perform comparably to above-grade windows. They are a significant upgrade from old single-pane basement windows. When sealed and installed correctly, they do not create cold spots or drafts. The window well cover also provides an additional buffer against cold air.

What should I do to prepare for my installation?

Clear the interior area near the work zone — at least 6 feet from the wall for egress and walkout projects, 3 to 4 feet for glass block and window replacements. Keep pets and children away from both interior and exterior work zones. Transplant any plants directly over the exterior dig zone. Your installer will provide specific prep instructions during the consultation.
